Legal notice
Meriz is a free, open-source student project for individuals, schools and universities learning or teaching database modelling.
Publisher and publication
The meriz.fr website is published on a non-professional basis by Yassine Daif, a student, who is also responsible for publication.
Contact: yassdaif10@gmail.com. This project does not officially represent an educational institution.
Hosting and domain
Hosting is provided by OVH SAS (OVHcloud), 2 rue Kellermann, 59100 Roubaix, France. Telephone: 1007 from France. OVHcloud legal information.
The Meriz server is located in the OVHcloud data centre in Strasbourg (SBG), France.
The domain registrar is IONOS. This provider manages the domain and does not host the application.
Free software and licence
The Meriz application and API are distributed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPL-3.0). You may use, study, modify and redistribute the software under that licence’s terms, including the applicable obligations to make source code available.
Third-party components retain their respective licences. The software is provided with the warranties and limitations specified by the licence. See the source code and the licence text.
Technologies and architecture
The public website uses HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The application uses React, TypeScript, Vite and Tailwind CSS. React Flow renders diagrams, Yjs supports collaboration, and Tauri provides Windows, macOS and Linux desktop builds.
A separate Laravel API manages accounts, classes and documents. Sanctum provides token authentication, Reverb carries real-time messages, and Filament provides administration. nginx serves the websites and proxies requests to the application server.
Personal data and traffic statistics
The public website does not set advertising cookies. Display preferences are saved locally. Server logs include information such as IP addresses, timestamps, requested resources and browsers for security and traffic measurement. Daily log rotation keeps 14 archived logs in addition to the current log.
Statistics are processed on the server using GoAccess. Reports restricted to administrators do not contain visitor IP addresses or URL parameters. Countries are estimated locally using DB-IP Liteunder the CC BY 4.0 licence. No IP addresses are sent to that provider. These estimates are approximate.
You can use the application without an account to work locally on your device. An account enables online storage and classroom features. The Meriz server processes the data needed for these features; service emails are sent through Brevo. You can delete your account from your profile, subject to the retention rules for educational records and backups.
For requests about your data, including applicable rights of access, rectification, erasure or objection, contact yassdaif10@gmail.com. You may also lodge a complaint with France’s data protection authority, the CNIL.
